Interview with Crystal:
I didn’t like the extra weight I was carrying around.
What kind of changes have you seen since you started working on your diet?
My waist is smaller. I am able to work-out easier. I don’t have bad pms symptoms anymore. And, most of all, I feel better all around. I have a great sense of well-being!
Are there specific things that you feel made the most difference in helping you lose weight?
Absolutely! I stopped eating salad dressing made with soybean oil. Oh my goodness, it made such a big difference! I no longer had to push through to make it through my day. It really made THAT much of a difference in the way it made me feel, so go check your oils in your dressings and such! (Note from Kristie-Check out this article for coconut oil recommendations and this article for a good olive oil)
Are there specific things that you feel made the most difference in how you feel?
Oh yes…Well, I started doing Trim Healthy Mama in December. I had been praying about losing weight and I know that the LORD sent this eating plan my way!
When you were your heaviest what did a typical meal look like for you?
Well, It was not so much about the meals, as it was the snacking. But I guess for meals, the biggest thing was carbs. You can get a lot of carbs and not even realize it. And I found out that it matters what oils you are putting in your body on a regular basis. As far as snacking, Trim Healthy Mama has ice cream on plan…oh yeah, that was one of my weaknesses at my heaviest weight. That and almonds…and I’m still working on that. Meals…hmmm…chicken…a lot of spaghetti with noodles…regular whole wheat…lots of carbs…lots and lots of carbs.
What do you eat now for breakfast, lunch, and supper?
For breakfast I often eat two eggs in butter or coconut oil…yes, butter is on plan for THM. For lunch…maybe a salad with baked chicken or those Gluten Free Chicken strips. Supper is usually meat cooked in coconut oil with a cooked vegetable (like broccoli).
Do you eat snacks?
Yes! All natural peanut butter with the lowest sugar. Soaked and toasted almonds. On plan snacks for Trim Healthy Mama…60% or higher dark chocolate. Fruit.
Do you exercise?
Yes…about 5 times a week…and then I have a trim healthy mama shake…oh yeah, the peanut butter one is divine…all the shakes are…the chocolate shake is soooo yummy and the coconut one….yum…they really make my day and encourage my work-out.
If someone is new to real food what advice would you give them?
Start slow. One step at a time. One change at a time. I would say, if you drink soft drinks, start drinking less…and then less the next week…until you don’t drink them anymore. You will lose a lot of weight if you stop soft drinks. And while you are cutting the drinks out, find a replacement…Trim Healthy Mama has a lot of great ideas for that. You can see some of them on Pinterest. And then work on the oils that are in your food. Switch to Coconut Oil, Butter, or Olive Oil. I want to try Palm Shortening.
Thank you Crystal! Crystal really does take her own advice because she has made these changes little by little and she is still working on improving her diet (like most of us!). Real food is delicious and can be eaten for a lifetime and will help you find your ideal weight. Any questions or comments? Please comment below!
