I love to see my children’s faces light up when they pull things out of their stockings on Christmas morning. It is so fun! But, as a frugal homeschooling mom, I also like to buy inexpensive items that they will REALLY love and use all year. I don’t like buying gifts that will be forgotten 2 weeks after Christmas. Instead I like to buy gifts that inspire creativity and imagination.
I am pretty picky about what I buy-I want my stocking stuffers to have educational value, I want them to be cheap, and I want them to be fun for longer than 1 hour. 🙂 It is not so easy to meet all of those requirements, so I thought I would make a list of my best ideas for stocking stuffers that are cheap, educational, AND fun.
(Note: Many of these are not “kids items” so definitely use your own discretion about whether they are safe for your kids.)
Spirograph-This can help with manual dexterity and is just fun! This kit makes cards as well-My girl’s like to make birthday cards for friends and family.

Markers–we use these constantly at our house!
Notebook–Notebooks are used almost daily at our house. Even I am inspired by a new blank notebook! 🙂 My kids use them to make lists, journal, draw and more!
Scissors-These aren’t kids scissors, so they wouldn’t be safe for all children. My kids are old enough to use real scissors and they work so much better! (Of course, use your own judgement for your kids :))
Flashlight-Kids always want to play with a flashlight!
Earbuds-These are great for listening to something on the computer or tablet without bothering everyone else. Get a cool color for extra kid appeal.
Kid’s Paint-These paints could keep kids happy for a long time.
Veggie Tale Movies-There are so many great ones! These teach such good lessons for kids, and Christian Book often has them for very good prices!

Dover Paper Dolls-There are so many to choose from! You can choose from historical ones or just plain fun ones!
Uno cards-This is a timeless game, and kids love it!
Deck of Cards-My daughter loves to play “war” and she never gets tired of it!
Go Fish-Another timeless game!
Gel Pens-These are so fun to use! I have tried some gel pens that didn’t work right, but these glitter gel pens have awesome reviews on Amazon.
Lego’s-These can teach kids to think in three dimensions and also teach planning by construction.

These are some of my favorite cheap gifts that have true educational value. My kids would use these creatively all during the year!
