Are you unhappy with the way you look or feel? Do you feel that you don’t have enough time and/or money to change anything?
I used to feel that way too. I didn’t have time to make fresh vegetable juices, or cook from scratch. I definitely didn’t have time or money to take all kinds of herbs and vitamins. And all those symptoms I had? Well, I was sure that aches and pains were just part of being a mom. And of course it is normal to feel terrible before your period. And all moms are tired, right?
But now, looking back, I see that these things don’t have to be true! If you are suffering with symptoms, there is a reason. Now, when I start to have signs of pms, I make myself some vegetable juice. I don’t make vegetable juice because I wake up thinking “I can’t wait to go make myself some vegetable juice”. 🙂 I make vegetable juice because I realized long ago that if I wanted to feel great than I was going to have to prioritize me.
I decided to stop thinking that it was too much trouble to take care of myself. I decided that I would think about how healthy and beautiful I am because I eat nourishing food, or make juice.
I decided to think of myself as healthy and beautiful even before it was fully true-I worked on thinking this way even when I was chronically fatigued.
I didn’t always work on my health like I do now. I used to put my husband and kids first. My thought pattern went something like this: “If anyone in my family isn’t doing well, than I need to help. And, if my house is a mess, than I need to clean. And obviously Bible study is more important than making vegetable juice.”
Now, I am not saying that it isn’t important to work on my house, my family, or Bible study. What I am saying is that I had to decide that my body was just as important. God has only given me one body. On this earth, I will never be issued another one. I had to decide that it often had to come first-this was especially true when I was feeling poorly. And once I made the decision that my body was very important, it became an absolute priority for me to have a healthy body.
I want you to feel and look your best also. I know what it is like to feel bad and it is no fun! I want to encourage you to have a healthy body because I found out this truth through experience: If you have a healthy body and feel energetic, it is alot easier to clean the house, and help your family. It is also easier to make money or save money. It is easier to cook healthy food. One small change leads to another which leads to another which leads to another.
And with God’s help one day you will have made the changes that seem impossible now!
Many problems that used to bother me seem small now, because I know that when I feel good, I think alot more clearly. If one of my children wakes up with a bad attitude, I am able to keep my happy attitude, while cheerfully and firmly addressing my child. My emotions don’t rule me as much, and I don’t get sucked into other people’s emotions as easily. (Bible and prayer helps with this too of course! :))
I want to encourage you to take really good care of the body that you have! It isn’t “fun” all the time, but it is so worth it. Your body is very important.
And, don’t forget to reward yourself-I tell myself that I can have a healthy treat if I go make my vegetable juice. After I make it, I feel great as I am drinking it because I know how good it makes me feel! And I know I am doing great things for my skin and youthfulness! And then I have a small healthy dessert (full of healthy fats and honey). 🙂
