Saving money can be a lot of work. Sometimes though it can be really easy! I have found a quick easy way for me to save money and still buy high quality food.
I buy meats that are antibiotic free and have no added growth hormones. Antibiotic tainted meat can hurt digestion by killing off the good bacteria in the gut. The good bacteria are vital for keeping digestion optimal and for protecting you from food poisoning and other digestive problems. Growth hormones in meat (and dairy) can cause hormonal problems in humans-like fibroids, early puberty, pcos, and many other hormonal imbalances.
It is important to me to buy meat that is going to add to our health and not take away from it. (And health is way cheaper than sickness!) But staying on budget is important too!
So, whenever our favorite chicken goes on sale at Food Lion I call ahead and order a whole box. I simply call the store and ask for the meat department. Once someone answers I ask to order a whole box of chicken. I also ask when I can expect it to be at the store. This way I can get really fresh meat for a really great price. (Fresh meat is really important for those who are histamine intolerant).
This saves me a bunch of money. For example this week the chicken at Food Lion is 25% off. I will usually spend about buy $50-$70 worth of chicken when it is this price. $70 worth of chicken this week will cost me close to $95 next week! I saved $25 and it took me 3 minutes to make the phone call, and 10 minutes to freeze the meat in freezer bags. It is really easy!
