Have you ever wondered if you might have a thyroid problem? I know I definitely have wondered that. I had a chronic fatigue like illness and my symptoms looked exactly like the symptoms of hypothyroidism. I suffered from terrible insomnia, I sometimes ached all over, I had bad headaches, and I suffered from pms and my cycle disappeared.
I began having heart palpitations, and my skin was really dry. I struggled with constipation, weight gain, and appetite problems. I was tired, sluggish, and felt little motivation to do anything.
I went to see a doctor and told her that I felt like it might be thyroid related. She ran some tests. I later got a phone call from my doctor’s office (which I was very happy to get-when you are sick you get excited about the possibility of someone being able to help!). The nurse told me that all my tests were normal except that I had high cholesterol. She advised me to work on my diet (no fried foods) so that I wouldn’t be put on cholesterol medication.
Disappointment set in as I realized that I wasn’t going to receive any help to feel better. And, it just didn’t set right with me that I had caused my high cholesterol from eating too many fried foods. I didn’t eat hardly any fried foods! I later discovered that high cholesterol is a symptom of thyroid problems.
Fast forward 4 years-I sleep well, I don’t have bad pms anymore, my heart palpitations are gone, and I am enjoying doing things with my family! Back when I was so sick, I desparately wanted to find out more information on how to help myself. I was able to find things that helped me, but it did take a long time and alot of research. I recently found something that might help you figure out how to feel better (and they have already done tons of research!) Your Best Thyroid Life Summit is a free online video series. It has some absolutely outstanding doctors and experts including Dr. Izabella Wentz, PharmD. I have wanted her book because I have some family members who still struggle with hypothyroidism and this book uncovers root causes. Now I can watch her for free at the Thyroid Life Summit!
